Collecting Samples at the Bradascio Vineyards

Teo collected grape samples to analyze from a vineyard in Northern Puglia prior to harvest

Day 32: October 3, 2023

Vineyard: Tenute Bradascio, Murgia, Puglia

Owners:
Tommaso Bradascio and his wife Stella.

This is a fairly young vineyard in its second year of wine production.  They are in  Murgia, in Valle d’Itria, in the northern part of Puglia.  They produce Primitivo DOC Gioia del Colle.  Loosely translated in English, Gioia del Colle means “Joyous Hills”.

The Primitivo grape grown in these parts is a different clone from the Primitivo grown in Salento, in the southern part of Puglia.  Because of the altitude, the different terroir (more rocks and stones), and the different climatic conditions, harvest typically happens a month later here.  Unlike in Salento, Valle d’Itria sees warm temperatures during the day and much cooler temperatures at nights.

Teo collected samples to see if bottled wine can be made from this harvest.  If it is deemed not possible, the owners plan to sell the grapes to other wineries that make bulk wine.
