We had the opportunity to visit several wineries on the Pelješac Peninsula, a major wine-growing region located north of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The primary red grape grown here is Plavac Mali, while the leading white variety is Bura Rukatac. Plavac Mali is closely related to Primitivo from Puglia and Zinfandel from California; all three trace their lineage back to an ancient Croatian grape known as Crljenak Kaštelanski.
